I Stand For The Trees and will not stay silent as irreplaceable ancient woodlands are set to be destroyed by HS2. They must be protected now. Forever. HS2 is an environmental disaster. Even more so in the face of the Climate and Ecological Emergency declared by Parliament mid 2019. More recently, Prime Minister Boris Johnson signed the UN Leaders' Pledge For Nature, saying, 'We can't afford to dither and delay, because biodiversity loss is happening today ... so our action must be immediate'. His immediate response is to trash our ancient woodlands and hundreds more wildlife spaces. I stand with leading environmental organisations demanding a rethink of HS2, including Client Earth, Extinction Rebellion, Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace, The National Trust, The Ramblers, RSPB, The Woodland Trust, The Wildlife Trust and WWF. The pandemic has taught us how work differently, using technology to hand and dramatically reducing the need to travel. An economic emergency is now upon us too. We can't afford to waste £100billion+ of taxpayers' money on HS2. In the face of these emergencies, HS2 is completely unacceptable. We must protect the irreplaceable ancient woodlands already standing, as well as planting many millions of new trees. Know that a large body of the public will not stand by and allow this destruction to happen and that we will stand for the trees and all of nature.
